My latest blog adventure will be tracking a few songs every week that have been big hits overseas but haven’t quite found their footing here stateside. So here are three songs that haven’t been blowing up the airwaves here yet.
1) Titanium, David Guetta f/ Sia
Another killer David Guetta track, this one featuring Sia (who is ripping up the Hot 100 on Flo Rida’s Wild One) peaked at number 5 on the Australia charts all the way back in October! It went number 1 in the U.K., and was in the top 5 throughout Europe. It’s one of the least flashy songs on Guetta’s album “Nothing But The Beat” but it’s a great showcase for Sia’s amazing vocals. The highest it has charted in the U.S. was 66 back in July. I think it’s a matter of time till this one replaces Turn Me On
2) One Thing, One Direction
Their single What Makes You Beautiful was a hit in the U.K. and Australia for the last quarter of 2011, but had only been a success here for a month (but a success that brought them a history making debut on the Billboard 200). One Thing is their follow up single that has been doing anywhere but here. It’s a simple love song that follows the same format as their first single, but it’s still good fun.
3) Count On Me, Bruno Mars
Charting in Australia for the past four months, Count On Me is a hidden gem that hasn’t received a proper release in the U.S. A soft and sincere song from his Grammy-nominated album, it’s a sharp contrast to his hits Grenade and It Will Rain. The easy, flowy guitar in it is reminiscent to his lighter hit The Lazy Song, but the heartfelt lyrics really raise this track to something special.
